The Postman of the Eighth Day

About this film

The Postman of the Eighth Day tells the story of the eighth day, a special place hidden in the folds of a calendar page, where things that 'almost happened' are kept. The postman rides a paper bird back to the city, returning unmailed apology letters to a woman so she can decide to send them; giving paper airplanes back to children so they can have the chance to fly them again; and delivering seeds to cracks so that new shoots can grow. Therefore, the eighth day symbolizes an extra chance: things missed can still return to life, and the next step is up to the person involved. The paper airplane never takes off, and the story stops at the moment the child regains it—the possibility of flying is left to the child and the audience.
